Divorce

GOD HATES DIVORCE. Yes, He does.

“I hate Divorce,” says the Lord God of Israel, -Malachi 2:16

“It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied, “But at the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” -Mark 10:5-9

To the married, I give you this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And A husband must not divorce his wife. To the rest, I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. -1 Corinthians 7:10-17

So… is divorce allowed? Can you get a divorce? Yes, however, God hates divorce. That was not His plan. Although I do think some marriages shouldn’t happen in the first place -like my first marriage, but it did and I learned from it, Thank God because I would have made even a bigger mess in this marriage than what it became.

Divorce can be devastating (especially if there are children, as I was a child that grew up in a broken home and also was a parent that had to go to bed and wake up without my kids as my kids had to go through that heartache too) and it doesn’t give glory to God. Sometimes it seems like a divorce would be best, but ultimately restoration is the best thing and it can be done with God’s help. For nothing is impossible with God. -Luke 1:37

For the past five years or so it appeared my marriage was on the verge of a divorce. There were days that I was devastated. There were days that I was angry. But there have been more days that I am hopeful because I came to know my Savior. I trust God enough that if He takes my husband out of my life then I’m better off without him. But I did not believe that was going to happen.

And here we are, still together and lookin’ real hopeful!!
